Where Did We Go

We departed Virginia Beach, VA on April 29, 2004 heading southwest and returned August 24, 2004 for a total of 117 days on the road. Click here to see our route on a map of the U.S. We traveled 16,240 miles - 9,678 miles towing and 6562 miles running around seeing the sites and taking care of business. The average trip length while towing was 194 miles. Click here to see our itinerary and a list of the campgrounds we used.

I picked many of the private and government campgrounds using RV Park Reviews. On two occasions, I was mildly disappointed with what I thought were inflated reviews but, overall, I was very pleased with the results and found some real gems. I felt that I got a much more accurate description of the campgrounds than I have received in the past from the major campground directories.

You probably noticed that we didn't stay too long in one spot. We stayed in 49 different places during out 117 days on the road. At 33 of those places, we stayed 2 days or less. That is one reason we spent so much on gas in only 4 months. Since this was our first year of RVing since our retirement, it seemed that we had to see everything on the first big trip. This seems to be a common "affliction" for many RVers.
